Available Grants

There are many programs that can help you reduce the cost of homeownership.

Choose a lender that has a “New Homeowner” grant program that will assist you with down payment and closing costs. Many of these banks are HHDC Home partners. They include Harris Bank, Marquette Bank, Washington Mutual, Citibank, LaSalle Bank and Neighborhood Lending Services.

If you are employed by Chicago Public Schools, you may be eligible for a grant of up to $7,500 for homeownership. Check Teacher Housing at http://teacherhousing.cps.k12.il.us.

If you are employed by the City of Chicago as a police officer, firefighter or paramedic, you may be eligible for a grant of up to $5,000 for homeownership. Check the City of Chicago’s web site at www.cityofchicago.org. Go to “Department of Housing” and look under “Mortgages and Homebuyer Grants”.

Community organizations frequently partner with government agencies to help qualified homebuyers reduce the cost of housing. These are grants or junior mortgages. Check the community resources page in this section.

Hispanic Housing can also provide you with a junior mortgage to reduce the cost of homeownership. These mortgages are available only to income qualified households. Talk to our marketing director about how we can help you.
